Growing cantaloupe in your home garden

Choose the Right Variety: Select a cantaloupe variety suitable for your climate. Varieties that mature quickly are ideal for shorter growing seasons.

Location: Plant cantaloupe in a sunny location with well-drained soil. They require at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal growth.

Soil Preparation: Prepare the soil by adding organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure to improve fertility and drainage

Planting: Plant seeds or seedlings after the last frost date in your area. Space plants 2-3 feet apart in rows or mounds to ensure good air circulation and room for vines to spread.

Watering: Provide consistent moisture throughout the growing season, especially during flowering and fruit development

Fertilization: Fertilize cantaloupe plants with a balanced fertilizer or one that is higher in phosphorus (P) to promote flowering and fruiting

Support and Pruning: Cantaloupe vines can be trained on trellises or supported with slings to keep fruits off the ground.
