How to make homemade hummingbird feeders?

Materials Needed: – Clean, empty plastic or glass bottle with a screw-on cap – Red plastic flowers or red tape – Thin, flexible plastic tubing or straws – Wire or string for hanging – Drill with a small bit

Prepare the Bottle: Clean the bottle thoroughly with soap and water. Rinse it well to ensure no soap residue remains.

Create Feeding Ports: Drill small holes in the bottle cap. The holes should be just big enough to fit the plastic tubing or straws snugly.

Attach Flowers: If using plastic flowers, attach them around the feeding ports. If using red tape, wrap it around the cap and bottle near the feeding ports to attract hummingbirds.

Insert Tubing or Straws: Cut the plastic tubing or straws to about 2-3 inches in length. Insert them into the holes in the cap. These will act as the feeding ports for the hummingbirds.

Add Hanging Mechanism: Attach wire or string securely around the neck of the bottle or through holes drilled in the top of the bottle for hanging.

Make Nectar: Mix one part white granulated sugar with four parts water. Boil the mixture for 1-2 minutes to dissolve the sugar and sterilize the solution. Let it cool completely before filling the feeder.

Fill the Feeder: Pour the cooled nectar into the bottle. Screw the cap on tightly with the feeding ports in place.

Hang the Feeder: Hang the feeder in a shady spot in your yard, preferably near flowers that already attract hummingbirds.
