Large rodent means a large diet

Burrows: Like the prolific diggers they are, groundhogs create extensive burrow systems underground.

The most tell-tale sign of a groundhog in your yard is its burrow. Look for entrances to their burrows

which are quite literally dug out holes in the ground that range from 10 to 12 inches in diameter.

Tracks and Scat: Keep an eye out for groundhog tracks in the soil or snow. Groundhog tracks resemble rodent tracks but bigger,

Also keep an eye out for their scat, which is pellet-shaped and may be found near their burrows.

Posture: When they sense a potential threat, groundhogs stand on their hind legs to get a better view of their surroundings

If your yard is big, with lots of open, grassy space, or even a stream running through it, it may be a likely candidate for a groundhog's home
